There are some things that just stare you in the face, make you take notice and then challenge you to express, react, or motivate. In the past couple of days there has been so much talk in my world about meditating, taking just 5 minutes to have some quiet time, reflect, possibly go offline (outrageous, I know). Some of us are better at this than others. In my world of complete distraction, it is not always at the forefront of my day to meditate! However, I am actually taking 5 days, (not offline, couldn’t go that far!) for some R&R in Telluride, CO. I have to say I have taken at least three and a half minutes to take notice of the aspen trees, creeks, waterfalls and being surrounded by a magnificent mountain range, mediation…maybe not, but the beauty is inspiring!
Last week, I was interviewed by our local news station regarding my opinion about prayer in the school; 5 minutes to reflect, meditate, pray or do whatever you wish as long as you are quiet, not an organized activity, just 5 minutes of your own time. Well, I went straight to the source and asked my second grader what he thought, “I would like to play soccer”, honest, not poignant, but hey, he is 7!
This morning I come across this article about an event called Meditate 08 that is going to take place during the DNC. A place for anyone to come and take 5 minutes to meditate…are you detecting my nudge? They were encouraging politicians to come, take a load off, and possibly shut up long enough to listen, novel idea!
I am writing this post after hiking to a beautiful waterfall, at the top of a magnificent mountain, where I did not have my phone or computer or anything else stopping me to actually, stand, breathe, appreciate and enjoy…even if it was only for 5 minutes!
